SERGIO ADAM’S STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE ALBANY COMMON COUNCIL’S PROPOSED BAN ON TEAR GAS AND RUBBE
Sergio Adams strongly supports the Albany Common Council’s proposal to ban the use of tear gas and rubber bullets by police. This summer we witnessed the Albany Police Department use tear gas on protestors on multiple occasions. Tear gas is a dangerous chemical weapon that is banned in warfare by the Geneva Conventions. It has no place on our city’s streets and should never be used on our city’s residents.
The Albany Common Council is currently considering an amendment to the proposed ban that would allow tear gas to be used under certain circumstances. Sergio is opposed to this amendment and to any proposal that would open the door for the use of tear gas. The Common Council must pass a complete ban on the use of tear gas and rubber bullets.
